Out History, Our Story
Since its founding, Southwest Mississippi Community College has evolved alongside its community, from its agrarian roots to today’s technological society.
Established as an agricultural high school in 1918 on the scenic grounds of Godbold's Mineral Wells near Summit, the school aimed to meet local educational needs. By 1929, it began offering college courses and became a two-year junior college in 1932. Renamed in 1988 to reflect its broader mission, the college now spans a sixty-acre campus with 28 buildings, a lake, and sports facilities. The remaining 855 acres are used as a tree farm.
